Background

Radio Thermostats provide 2-stage heating and 2-stage cooling along with 7-day scheduling. All models use the USNAP communication modules. CT-50 supports both WiFi and Z-wave modules simultaneously. RT also provides for installing a second USNAP module for Z-wave communications. Both modules can function simultaneously for access by both WiFi and by Z-wave servers. Both interact identically with T-stat software. A change by one connection automatically is available with the other. Handy for home automation services as well as remote access via a web browser, iPhone app, or Android app. Official Radio Thermostat support is here.

Radio Thermostat uses Energy Hub to provide free data logging services. Energy Hub focuses on homeowner (or commercial buildings) Demand Response applications tied to major utilities for participating in DR programs.

Radio Thermostats are also sold under the 3M Filtrete brand at hardware stores.

Models:

• CT-32 - Not recommended.
• CT-50- 2-stage heating, 2-stage cooling. Includes WiFi module. Also supports Z-wave module. Recommended. Amazon price - $68.95.
• CT-80 - 3 stage heating, 2-stage cooling. Use with separate heating source (heat pumps, if so equipped to accommodate , or heating water coil). Amazon price - $122.95 + USNAP communication module (WiFi/Z-wave). Designed for use with demand control signals from utility. Use CT-50 where 3rd stage heating not required.
• CT-100 - 4-stage heating, 2-stage cooling, for heat pumps. Z-wave only (builtin). Amazon price - $104.00. Installation instructions. May not be needed for heat pumps if built-in HP controller automatically operates electric heating on a drop in return air temperature.
• CT-101 - 2-stage heating, 2-stage cooling. Includes Z-wave. Can be controlled by Alexa through a Z-wave hub (i.e. Vera). Amazon price - $123.78. Does NOT include WiFi or Z-wave module. Not recommended.

Recommendation

CT-50 (with WiFi module). Purchase separate Z-wave USNAP module to connect to home automation (Vera) for access via Alexa.

WiFi enabled Radio Thermostats use the USNAP WiFi module.
