How to Setup Radio Thermostat WiFi

Every thermostat must be validated for RT-website access

Read this through entirely before jumping in. The RT-stat is only available with WiFi. The setup process requires (a) connecting to the RT-stat (one-to-one using WiFi), (b) disconnecting from the RT-stat, then (c) reconnecting again by WiFi (using the LAN) for final connection to RT-website.

Definitions

RT-stat is an in-building Radio Thermostat equipped with a WiFi module for remote access through the RT-website.
RT-website is a free hosted Radio Thermostat web server application for setting up RT-stat schedules, setpoints, and overrides.

Interoperable Two-Way Connection

RT-stat periodically reports operating data to RT-website. Setpoint, fan, and schedule changes are written back to RT-stat over the reverse tunnel connection.

First Connection - To RT-stat

RT-stat powers up initially in the setup mode.

It's helpful to work with three browser tabs:

Initial browser tab that connects to the RT-stat.
Second tab that connects to the RadioThermostat.com website for registration.
Third tab that connects back to the RT-stat to validate the connection

If a mistake is made or the setup process does not complete then repeat setup:

Press Menu button once
Press center of screen until "00" displays
Press down arrow once - stat counts down from 5
RT-state enters setup mode (center yellow LED flashes) and PIN number appears (see below)

(Once setup is entered there is no escape - proceed on and repeat above process. Even pressing the reset button will not escape the setup mode. It may also be necessary to delete the RT-website entry too.)

Scan for RT-stats Wireless Network Connection

(While connected to RT-stat search for available WiFi Signals.)

Select Local RT-stat Network

(Pick RT-stat network to use.)

Enter Network Password

Enter RT-Stat Pin Number

(If, for some reason, the Pin number disappears, start setup over.)

Reconnect to Your LAN

(Needed to reconnect to the RT-stat.)

Reconnect to RT-stat

Web page confirms success (Internet Connection: X means the RT-stat has yet to be connected to the RT-Website)

Confirm RT-stat UUID

(Copy the UUID - you'll need it later for the RT-website.)

Sign in to radiothermostat.com

Create new account for each site (create new gmail address) to simplify management and allow the site to be shared. (Thermostats cannot be shared - only sites.)

Swipe and Copy Authentication Number

Wait for this message to clear then go to RT-stat LAN connection tab and enter key. Connection can take 60 seconds.

Each account (email address) can contain multiple Locations

Thermostats can be moved to different Locations - but not different accounts

High and low alerts can send emails to Account owner

Recap

To remotely access a RT-stat the RT-website requires the RT-stat to be validated.
Validation requires a UUID (RT-stat MAC address) to be entered into the RT-website registration page.
Entering the UUID triggers the registration page to generate an "authentication key".
This key is then entered into the RT-stat page.
The authentication key enables reverse communication from the RT website to the RT-stat.

Moreover...

Users may have any number of RT-website Accounts.

Each Account requires a unique email address.

Each is usually allocated to a single customer.

Accounts can have any number of RT-stats.

RT-stats are grouped by Location

Locations can be shared with other Accounts

If a Location is shared an Account will automatically be created for them if needed. Otherwise the Location automatically appears in the Accounts list of locations.

RT-stat access can be shared with other users.

Within the RT-website, for a given RT-stat, click on the "Share" link to send an email invitation to other users.

By defaults sharing a single RT-stat in a given Location, automatically shares all the RT-stats at that location.

There is no provision for read or write sharing. All thermostat remote users are 'admin'. Each shared user has full control of the RT-stat - including user (Account) access control. Any shared user can un-share any other user (Account), including the original creator.

Restating...

Two numbers are involved:

The first generated by the T-stat (UUID)
The second generated by the RT website (authentication)

This means:

The UUID must be confirmed by the RT-website. It does so by requesting entry of the UUID in the RT-Website so that it can generate a unique authentication number.
It's the match of the UUID and authentication number, within the RT-stat, that enables the RT-website to communicate with the T-stat (i.e. uses a reverse tunnel from the T-stat to the RT website, that allows RT-website changes to be transmitted to the T-stat.)
